Who We Are
Over ten years in the making, Pride in the Port was founded in January 2022 with one simple premise: that no child of Newport should have to leave the place that they call home in order to be themselves. Emerging from COVID-19 and facing the challenges of a new type of social isolation - one that hit the LGBTQIA+ community hard - through the good work of our members and our allies across the city we beat the odds to stage a successful community led Pride; one that is going strong to this day!
What We Do
Pride in the Port champions LGBTQIA+ wellbeing, education and culture across Newport and beyond. We organise a diverse range of events, including sober socials, LGBTQ+ book discussions, and film nights, aimed at creating safe, expressive venues for community engagement.
The highlight of our efforts is our annual (and always free) Pride celebration, a vibrant event that celebrates LGBTQIA+ culture, uniting our community in music, food and activities to celebrate our diversity and promote equality. Through our actions, Pride in the Port actively fosters a welcoming and supportive environment for all in Newport.
If you would like to get involved, please contact us using the queries form on this page, let us know your ideas help us work together to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ individuals in our city.
UK PRIDE 2026
Pride in the Port is a finalist to host UK Pride 2026! Chosen each year by the UK Pride Organisers Network, UK Pride is a title given to a member group to showcase their contribution to the Pride movement within the UK.
As a finalist for UK Pride 2026, we at Pride in the Port hope to showcase the strength and unity in our underserved communities, demonstrating the value of Pride in our city, across Wales and beyond.
If you would like to join us in campaigning, collaborating and celebrating the Pride movement across the UK, please follow us on social media and sign up to our newsletter. The final vote for member organisations will take place in October at the UKPON AGM.
